Description

Abell 85, also known as CTB 1, is a large supernova remnant (SNR) located in the constellation of Cassiopeia. The southern part of the supernova bubble also made it into the Lynds Bright Nebula Catalog as LBN 576. Originally cataloged as a planetary nebula by George Abell, it quickly became clear that it was an SNR. Abell 85 was also recognized as a radio source and was given the alternative designation CTB 1.
